Jumee Smolett travel to Cape Town. The trip is part of the American-based
Artists For A New South Africa (ANSA) funding and support initiative, undertaken
in partnership with the Aids Foundation of South Africa. They meet with Nelson
Mandela and visit Robben Island. They attend Archbishop Desmond Tutu's 75th
birthday celebrations on Saturday Oct 7, before flying to the KwaZulu-Natal
province, where they see for themselves the reality of AIDS. The focus of
the visit is on Ingwavuma, in the interior of northern Zululand, where much
of ANSA's funds were spent. On
Aug
21, 2003, Santana donated the entire net proceeds of the
June-July
U.S. "Shaman" Tour to ANSA's AIDS Fund. On
Sept 18, 2006, Carlos and
Deborah Santana co-chaired ANSA's U.S. 75th Birthday Celebration for archbishop
Desmond Tutu. This trip is filmed for the documentary "Road To Ingwavuma".
It premieres on
April
27, 2008 in Brooklyn, NY, and is released in
Dec 2008 on DVD-R1 (Out Of The Blue Films
